hotel & other accommodations at orkestra

Orkestra’s hotel sits in the heart of 9 hectares of diverse Asturian landscape. It has 12 ensuite rooms, 2 of which are larger mezzanine (family) rooms that sleep 4 people. In total the hotel can house up to 28 guests. Additionally on the land there is an Eco Cabin that sleeps 2 people and also 2 x studio room apartments for longer stays up at the vegetable garden.

Check out the map below for the exact location:

  • the hotel has a long ecological history: starting and well known as Hotel Posada del Valle it was build and cared of to host nature lovers With over 30 different apple trees, kiwis, walnuts, hazels, apple pear mixed, a mix of the infamous asturias Xalda sheep it was already a gem to acquire.
  • The hotel has 12 double rooms all with bath and shower and even bidet (they were english). There is a river at the bottom of the land, the Cantabrian Sea 20 km North and there are incomprehensible views of the mountain range Picos de Europa all around. There is a library and bone museum, a professional kitchen
  • We want to use the hotel and its surroundings as a habitat or super-organism. People that come will take something but always leave something too. In this way it will be based on reciprocity. It will grow and will never stop evolving.
  • We invite artists, writers, scientists, cooks, farmers, specialists, academics of all sorts to apply for a residency and stay for a while with us at Orkestra.  The residency is about engaging with the ecosystem of the project area and using it to fuel inspiration, collaboration and creativity.

the land

The hotel sits in the heart of a green haven. Mature oaks (eik) and hundreds of swaying Ash (Es) trees line the slopes down to a magical stream that is fed by the mist valley high above (1200m) on the Sueve ridge-line. The land has long been grazed by livestock and as that pressure subsides its raw growing power is frightening in the later spring months. Its a seasonal delight that supports a range of wild neighbours, wild boar (wilde zwijn) plow up the land and give rise to diversity, fox, badger, genet and pine marten all patrol on a crepuscular timetable. In the air peregrine falcons clash with ravens and the ever present shadows of griffon vultures caress the land. All this natural wealth is encompassed by the stunning views of the Picos de Europa massif to the East and the jurassic limestone coastline to the north. Mist valleys, wild rivers, endless streams and Atlantic waves create a moist paradise and the perfect conditions for life to grow.
